ATTI SONORI music theatre 2007 spring
Music, one of the most ancient forms of art, is a universal mode of communication and, at the same time, a personal type of expression: due to its vicinity to the essence of all elements, it has the capacity to act as a bridge that connects to other people’s feelings and, in parallel, it allows us to express ourselves using a timeless and bounder-less language.
The objective that guides us in this third edition of the Festival is to increasingly develop the role of the musician and of music, within the theatrical dramaturgy, seeking for a “new dramaturgy of sound”.
Consequently, within the three projects that we are presenting this year, music may be viewed as a core element of the dramaturgy, even though it follows different paths in each performance. ”
Indeed, in Delirium, the musician is a character of the plot, as the next-door neighbour of the absurd couple that is at the centre of the performance. In Lighea, music becomes the spokesperson of the main character’s experience: it becomes a musical tale, a setting, a narrative plan; the musical words mix with the ones that are recited, with the intent of amalgamating sound and speech into a single narrative.
And, lastly, in Words and Music, music itself is a character. It’s one of the three protagonists, Bob, just as was Beckett’s intention in this particular radio drama of his.
However a clear consideration emerges: even where music lends itself to the needs of the dramaturgy and of the direction of the performances, it maintains within itself, a strong power and an independent semantic capacity that, if exploited correctly and balanced well, allows to enhance emotions and suggests other ones.
To new collaborations shall accompany us throughout this year’s experience: Human Rights Nights Film Festival and Legàmi of Contemporary Theatre of Il Gruppo Libero San Martino.
