L'Histoire du Soldat

Music by Igor Stravinskij
Script by Charles Ferdinand Ramuz
Translation into Italian Matteo Belli
Arrangements by Valentino Corvino

The performance presents a representation of Stravinski’ s poor and anti theatrical work (as the author himself used to define it), which was against the sumptuous and cumbersome aesthetic canons of traditional lyric opera.
This musical version has been especially commissioned by the 'Ass. Perséphone for the reduced number of instruments: clarinet, violin, piano and reciting voice (the original version requires seven musicians)).
The story comes from the Russian Afanas'ev’s fairytale tradition, a premonition of the First World War; it is characterized by a surreal atmosphere and, as in all fairytales, the moral in the ending carries a strong message.
